Narrative Mixed-Media Painting

There’s nothing like a story to captivate our imaginations and take us to all of the places we may not physically go. Stories enable us to see a new way forward, as well as to create a new perspective and outlook on life. They can be entertaining and fun or deeply moving and wrenched with pain. They are not dull! Narratives have been part of the fabric of our lives as long as we have existed. They help us recall, learn and recite what is wise and important- passed down as a legacy from generation to generation.

It’s my hope that these images and their titles spark your imagination and allow you to create your own narrative. I invite you in...

Vintage Vignettes

In my home, everything has a story. Almost nothing is new, but a carefully curated, warm and reminiscent space. It is in this spirit that I have created these Vintage Vignettes, using oldschool images from my many travel jaunts as well as ones adopted from those who have preceded our history. Also included in many are found bits and bobs that add character and context. I’m curious as to where these snapshots in time will take you.

Beeswax is the binder in much of my work, especially in these narrative pieces. I use it hot in Encaustic, and as a cold paste version used with oil paints and pigment sticks. It has been used as a luminous and practical preserver for millenia while acting as a glue as well as a substrate and sealer. A big shout out to the bees!!
